HISTORICAL PLACES
Alanya Castle, with walls stretching approximately 6.5 kilometers, is located on a peninsula rising up to 250 meters above sea level. Although the settlement on the Alanya Peninsula, also known as Kandeleri, dates back to the Hellenistic period, the historical structure that has survived to the present day largely belongs to the 13th-century Seljuk period.
ANCIENT SITES
There are many ancient city ruins along the eastern and western axis of Alanya. Some of these cities were established along the coast, while others were built on steep slopes. They belong to the regions of Pamphylia and Cilicia, and their remains reflect the characteristic features of these ancient regions.
MUSEUMS
There are four museums in Alanya: the Archaeological Museum, the Ethnography Museum, the Inner Castle Museum, and the Atatürk House Museum. All museums are affiliated with the Alanya Museum Directorate and can be visited for an entrance fee. Except for the lunch break, the museums are open to visitors every day of the week.
BEACHES
Alanya’s beaches consist of wide sandy shores and are Blue Flag certified. The Blue Flag is an international program that defines and monitors the cleanliness of seawater used for swimming, as well as beach standards. Beaches that meet the required criteria are awarded the Blue Flag for one year. Microbiological and physicochemical analyses of the seawater are carried out every 15 days.
CAVES
It would not be wrong to call Alanya a “city of caves.” In Alanya, you can discover the mysterious world of both land and sea caves. While walking through land caves that date back millions of years, you can admire the magical world of stalactites and stalagmites formed over tens of thousands of years, and even witness new formations taking shape.
TAURUS MOUNTAINS AND HIGHLANDS
Going up to the highlands during the summer months and spending the season there is an important part of the thousand-year-old Yörük Turkmen culture. In the past, villages would begin to empty in spring as people moved to the cool and fertile highlands.
STREAMS AND RIVERS
Located approximately 15 kilometers inland from the Mediterranean, the banks of Dim River are among Alanya’s most popular picnic and relaxation areas. In the country restaurants under the shade of large plane trees, tables are set directly in the water, while authentic floor-style dining areas with cushions are prepared on wooden terraces by the river.
SAPADERE CANYON
Sapadere Canyon is one of the must-see natural wonders for those who wish to escape the summer heat of Alanya and enjoy a refreshing atmosphere. Located in Sapadere Village, this remarkable canyon is an important destination for alternative tourism, measuring approximately 750 meters in length and about 400 meters in height.
